The Knoxville Mercury, Yassin’s Falafel House, and the Central Collective are teaming up to fund a vision for a better Knoxville.
Join us for lunch provided by Yassin’s Falafel House and enjoy a special screening of the recent short film produced by Square, “Yassin Falafel.” A blog post by the Mercury on the day after the election caught the attention of Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey. The result was a beautifully produced video that tells the story of Yassin Terou’s journey from Syria to settle in Knoxville and realize his American Dream.
We’ll also be introducing you to a new initiative by the independent weekly paper, the Knoxville Mercury. In every issue this year, the paper will bring attention to citizens who are working to move Knoxville ahead. This new section, called Press Forward, highlights endeavors in these areas: civic & humanitarian, education, arts & culture, health & food, business & technology, environment & sustainability.
Half the proceeds from this lunch event will go toward funding the reporting of these stories by the Knoxville Mercury. With your help, we can make sure Knoxville continues to become a place where good ideas thrive.
